Dear Friends,

As a new nonprofit organization, we are fuelled by the opportunity to advance effective grassroots democratic engagement by leveraging the power of human collective intelligence at scale. Using new forms of AI that facilitate collaborative dialogue and reasoning, people everywhere can now engage in productive conversations about the issues that matter to them, learn from each other, and collectively prioritize solutions together.

We are launching this monthly newsletter to share updates about our initiatives, and we invite you to engage with us.

Showing the impact of new human-powered AI capabilities

Common Good AI was founded on the belief in our innate human ability to use our collective intelligence to collaborate and create innovative solutions to our greatest challenges. Over the next six months, in partnership with other organizations, we are launching a series of pilots using scalable human-powered AI technology, enabling groups of any size to debate ideas, identify shared goals and find solutions together.

We are eager to collaborate with others working on democracy innovation and are in discussions with a wide range of international and U.S. nonprofits and philanthropic organizations about how we can help advance their efforts by engaging their diverse stakeholders using these new collaborative AI tools.

Keynote presentation on collective intelligence and democracy

Cofounders of Common Good AI, Kim Polese and Tom Kehler, attended the Associated Computing Machinery (ACM) Collective Intelligence 2024 conference in Boston on June 26-29, hosted by Northeastern University. Kim delivered a keynote speech and posed the question: “Can Collective Intelligence Save Democracy?” Her clear answer was affirmatively “yes”, emphasizing the need for new tools to foster common ground and reduce polarization. The conference was not videoed, but we anticipate other venues where we can share the talk in the near future.

Fiscal sponsorship established

We are excited to announce a fiscal sponsorship with Aspiration, a dynamic technology nonprofit based in San Francisco. We share a vision of leveraging technology to drive social change, rather than letting technology drive human actions. As our fiscal sponsor, they will assist us to establish organizational systems and develop strategies to advance our mission.

Being Aspiration’s first AI-focused project, we eagerly anticipate a mutual learning experience as we collaborate closely. Aspiration’s Executive Director Allen Gunner commented, "We are excited to support Common Good AI, to work with such experienced and thoughtful leaders, and to explore appropriate and sustainable applications of AI in community and collaboration contexts for civil society.”
